As you know, fuel prices are impacting every part of our daily lives. The rising fuel costs are affecting the price of your transportation, groceries, and essentially anything that requires transport. At Sue's Recycling, fuel prices have caused our operating costs to rise dramatically and unpredictably. For the past several months, we have absorbed these additional costs, however, to ensure the reliability and quality of service you have come to expect, we must take reasonable actions.
To be as fair as possible, we have chosen to NOT raise our rates outright and will instead implement a varying fuel surcharge to your bill only when fuel rates are high. Our method of fuel surcharge is the fairest option for our customers because it is only applied when necessary, and if fuel prices return to their previous level, then your fee will go away. This proved to be a good solution for our customers when prices jumped in 2008 and 2011. Prices eventually dropped, and as promised, we eliminated fuel surcharges.
We will calculate your surcharge to cover only our actual increased operating costs, and NOT for our profit. We will calculate your surcharge using the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)'s regional price index. This index is objective, publicly available, and widely recognized in the trucking and transportation industries. The index can be found online here.
The surcharge rate will be determined based on the price of fuel at the time your invoice is generated. The table below shows the fuel price basis and associated surcharge rates.
To respect both new customers' recent quotes and existing customers' loyalty, we are implementing a grace period of 30 days before any fuel surcharges are levied against our current rates. The surcharge will begin on invoices for service after April 30, 2022.
The calculator below will allow you to see how surcharge will affect your invoice amount.
Please call us with any questions you may have. We have made every effort to find a surcharge option that is fair and reasonable. We hope that circumstances with fuel prices change soon so this is no longer necessary. Thank you for your loyalty and understanding.
